Do you think President Trump ran for office to make money?

Posted 2/11/2026

Donald Trump initially ran for President of the United States, declaring that he wouldn't accept the $400,000 annual salary that comes with the job. Reports indicate that he has consistently donated the funds to government entities. Though this may be true, he has continued to generate significant income from his private business ventures while in office. Trump has already made 1.4 billion dollars after retaking office. He has made his own cryptocurrency, leased his name, and filed lawsuits - several lawsuits. ABC News and George Stephanopoulos settled a defamation lawsuit with Donald Trump, and Donald Trump settled his lawsuit against CBS and parent company Paramount for $16 million.

Now, the leader of the MAGA movement has decided to sue his own country. The Trump Organization filed a 10 billion dollar lawsuit against the IRS and the U.S. Department of Treasury alleging failure to protect confidential tax information. They claim that a contractor, Charles Littlejohn, leaked their information to media outlets between 2018 and 2020, causing financial harm and severe damage to Trump's reputation. It should be noted that Littlejohn pleaded guilty and was sentenced to the maximum penalty of five years.

Others do share Trump's point of view. Billionaires Kelcy Warren and Kenneth C. Griffin filed lawsuits over disclosures of their tax information. Warren sued Charles Littlejohn's former employer, Booz Allen Hamilton Inc., while Griffin is also suing the IRS and the U.S. Treasury Department like President Trump. Apparently thousands of people were affected by the data being leaked. For Trump, the lawsuit could be a conflict of interest because Trump oversees the federal agencies that he's suing. So, technically, the largest data breach in the history of the IRS would be his fault.

President Trump has attempted a monumental lawsuit before, once coming after the New York Times for defamation. Trump was seeking 15 billion dollars, but the lawsuit was thrown out of court in September of 2025. Now, only a few months later, this lawsuit surfaces, giving the appearance of desperation.  Rep. John B. Larson is attempting to block Trump's move by introducing the Prevent Presidential Profiteering Act.... Click Here.

Trump's former personal attorney called Trump a "con man" and a "cheat" when he testified before Congress in 2019. It's well known how Trump's casino endeavors in Atlantic City years ago bankrupted some companies he didn't pay or partially paid while he made millions. If this lawsuit is allowed to proceed, the American taxpayers will foot the bill.
