Directed by Jon Favreau, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is a space-western action-adventure film that marks the franchise’s return to movie theaters. Set in the outer reaches of the galaxy during the era of the fledgling New Republic, the story follows the legendary armored bounty hunter Din Djarin and his Force-sensitive apprentice Grogu. Enlisted by the New Republic to track down an elusive, high-ranking Imperial officer, Commander Coin, the duo strikes a high-stakes deal involving the Hutt Twins. To secure Coin's coordinates, they must rescue Rotta the Hutt from a brutal criminal syndicate run by Lord Janu. The dangerous quest takes them into a rain-drenched, neon-lit underworld planet where they must navigate shifting syndicates and massive alien threats, testing their deep paternal bond to its absolute limits.
The theatrical feature transitions its iconic characters to the big screen with an expansive ensemble cast. Pedro Pascal returns as the voice and presence of Din Djarin, alongside the puppet performance of Grogu as himself. Screen legend Sigourney Weaver joins the galaxy as Colonel Ward, the authoritative New Republic commander overseeing the mission, while Jeremy Allen White provides the voice of Rotta the Hutt, who desperately wants to escape his late father Jabba's criminal shadow. Jonny Coyne portrays the ruthless syndicate boss Lord Janu, and Steve Blum voices the Lasat warrior and pilot Zeb Orrelios. Co-written by Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor, the 132-minute film blends large-scale IMAX cinematography and practical effects with an intimate story about parenting, delivering an accessible standalone adventure for casual viewers and longtime fans alike.
