After more than a decade of false starts, negotiations, and public back-and-forth, the most anticipated all-British heavyweight clash in modern boxing history is finally official. Former two-time world champions Tyson "The Gypsy King" Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) and Anthony "AJ" Joshua (30-4, 27 KOs) are set to collide in a blockbuster showdown.
The event will take place on Friday, December 11, 2026, at the 80,000-capacity Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. While a transatlantic push briefly favored staging the spectacle at New York's Madison Square Garden, Joshua’s contractual insistence on a UK-based venue ultimately kept the fight on home soil.
To accommodate prime-time viewing windows in the United States, the event is scheduled as a Friday night showcase, with main-event ring walks stretching into the early hours of Saturday morning. Spearheaded by Saudi boxing authority HE Turki Alalshikh in collaboration with The Ring and UFC chief Dana White, the mega-fight will stream live globally on Netflix at no extra cost to subscribers.
Both boxers last fought in July and won their fights: Joshua barely won against Kristian Prenga, whom he defeated by way of knockout in the second round, and Fury against Mariusz Wach, a 46-year-old boxer from Poland, whom he defeated via a seventh-round TKO. Prior to Joshua fighting Prenga, he brutalized Jake Paul, an influencer and former actor turned "professional" boxer, in what was an officially sanctioned fight. Paul was soundly defeated but lasted 6 rounds, eventually suffering a double broken jaw requiring surgery that used titanium plates and screws. Prior to defeating Wach, Fury secured a unanimous decision win against Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier in April of 2026.
Though both fighters are in the twilight of their careers and looking to rebuild following high-profile defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, the bout carries immense legacy stakes. It represents a massive cultural moment for British sports. The official build-up kicks off with a high-stakes press conference in London on September 30, setting the stage for what promises to be one of the most-watched events in combat sports history.
