There had been four candidates mentioned repeatedly as
contenders for the MVP of the NFL. Josh Allen, quarterback for the Buffalo
Bills, had an impressive 2024-25 season. His name was tossed around as a
front-runner for the MVP award, which he eventually won. However, Lamar
Jackson, quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, who was eliminated from playoff
contention in a head-to-head battle with the aforementioned Josh Allen, could
have garnered serious consideration again. Lamar Jackson had another spectacular
season where he padded the stats, and he already has two MVP trophies on his
shelf. Joe Burrow led the league in passing, with 4,918 yards. Among the QBs
mentioned, Josh Allen had the least amount of passing yards, with 3,731. The
only player that's not a quarterback that was thrown into the discussion was
Saquon Barkley. Barkley rushed for over 2,000 yards and had the chance to break
the NFL single-season rushing record but was held out of the final game of the
year for fear of injury. He went on to win Super Bowl LIX with the
Philadelphia Eagles. Despite Jayden Daniels, quarterback for the Washington
Commanders, being a rookie and a shoo-in for AP Rookie of the Year, which he did
win, it's surprising that his name didn't come up as much in the MVP race. The
2024-2025 NFL MVP was announced on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the NFL
Honors ceremony.
