Directed by Aaron Sorkin, The Social Reckoning is a gripping biographical drama that serves as a tense companion piece to the modern digital age, chronicling the high-stakes fallout behind one of history's largest corporate and data leaks. The story follows the relentless efforts of data scientist and whistleblower Frances Haugen alongside Wall Street Journal investigative reporter Jeff Horwitz as they systematically uncover, verify, and expose thousands of internal, highly guarded documents revealing the inner workings of a tech empire.
As the narrative unfolds, the film explores the massive institutional fallout and political shockwaves triggered when these internal files reveal that the social media conglomerate knowingly prioritized corporate growth, algorithmic engagement, and profit over public safety, exacerbating extreme political polarization, mental health crises among teenagers, and misinformation worldwide.
The drama builds toward intense congressional hearings and a public reckoning, examining the heavy personal sacrifices required to challenge a trillion-dollar technology monopoly and the systemic challenges of holding digital titans accountable.
The film features a talented lead ensemble cast, starring Mikey Madison as whistleblower Frances Haugen and Jeremy Allen White as investigative journalist Jeff Horwitz, alongside Jeremy Strong portraying visionary tech mogul Mark Zuckerberg. Blending rapid-fire dialogue with mounting investigative dread, the movie captures the chilling reality of modern algorithmic influence, framing the battle for information integrity as one of the defining struggles of the modern era.
