Reports indicate that Iran is weeks away from building a nuclear weapon. Hmmm. This same type of rhetoric has been echoed before. Former President George W. Bush and his administration had Americans under the belief that Iraq had a nuclear program as the late Colin Powell delivered a bevy of lies to the United Nations Security Council. This led to the death of some 200,000+ Iraqis, with some estimates as high as 1,000,000, and 4,400+ American soldiers killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. President Trump decried that his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, was wrong, saying that Iran isn't nearing the construction of a weapon of mass destruction. There is a popular saying by Voltaire (François-Marie Arouet) that suggests, "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." Gabbard later changed her tune from the testimony she gave back in March of 2025. Israel preemptively bombed Iran to bring their suspected nuclear ambitions to a halt, actions considered illegal because they violated international law and tenets of the United Nations charter. The International Criminal Court had already issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, who is accused of heinous acts allegedly committed during Israel's campaign in Gaza. Israel has argued that they don't impede humanitarian aid, but according to Senator Bernie Sanders, they fired a tank into a crowd of people seeking food.
Iran is a member of BRICS, and Russia and China have condemned Israel's actions. Russia says they haven't provided military assistance to Iran because Iran hasn't sought their help. President Trump wants the unconditional surrender of Iran but has not provided a time frame for them to do so. President Trump has familiarity with Iran. In 2020, he ordered a drone strike that killed Qasem Soleimani, an Iranian general responsible for attacks on American personnel. Soleimani was the leader of the Quds Force, which was designated a terrorist organization by several countries, including the United States. Now, the conflict is in full swing as Iran retaliated by bombing installations in the city of Tel Aviv. At the time of this posting, President Trump was contemplating whether or not America should enter the war. Many see Iran as a threat based on their association with extreme factions such as Hezbollah and, more recently, Hamas. They have widely been considered an authoritarian regime with aspirations of destabilizing the Middle East.
