Supergirl is a sweeping cosmic superhero epic that serves as a cornerstone entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s newly rebooted DC Universe. Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) and written by Ana Nogueira, the sci-fi adventure is a direct adaptation of Tom King’s acclaimed comic book miniseries, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Departing from traditional, optimistic superhero tropes, the narrative presents a much more hardened, jaded version of Kara Zor-El. Having survived the slow, traumatic destruction of her home planet, a fierce Kara leaves Earth behind to embark on a galaxy-spanning, gritty revenge western across harsh alien worlds, tracking a ruthless space fugitive alongside a young alien girl and Krypto the Superdog.
The blockbuster stars House of the Dragon breakout Milly Alcock as the attitude-filled Kara Zor-El, capturing the character's raw survival instincts and deep emotional scars. She anchors an impressive ensemble cast that includes Eve Ridley as her determined young companion Ruthye, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villainous space pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills, and Jason Momoa, who makes a highly anticipated DC return as the foul-mouthed intergalactic mercenary Lobo. David Corenswet also makes a cameo appearance as Kal-El, providing a stark, hopeful contrast to Supergirl's sharp, volatile edge. Released globally on June 26, 2026, Gillespie's visually stunning, 108-minute feature stands out as an ambitious and tonally unique sci-fi epic that redefines the iconic heroine for modern audiences.
